Review of The Dark Crystal (1982) by Aj V — 27 Dec 2010
I basically forgot this entire movie so it was almost like watching it for the first time. My thoughts are similar to what I think of the original Tron, there's plenty of genre defining moments in this film that have influenced every fantasy film since (especially guillermo del toros' stuff) but the film itself is a bit off.
It lacks the fun characters of the studio followup labyrinth and well, honestly the basic plot seems to have little in the way of a begining , not enough of a middle and kind of a rushed ending. Still a feat and a half that it got made at all I suppose and certainly worth viewing for anyone who likes puppets , fantasy or jim henson stuff.
