Review of The Darjeeling Limited (2007) by Chloe D — 21 Apr 2011
After watching this movie for a second time, I can't decide between this & Royal Tenenbaums as my favourite Anderson movie. Indias colours, music, & style all coincide with Andersons work. I relate soooo much to Peter Whitman (Adrien Brodys character) it's spooky; never thinking you'd settle down, never having children, always expecting to become divorced, "borrowing things"... I feel like although all the characters are quite extraverted, each of them have quality that are similar to people. Also, the personas develop a remarkable amount over the short time span.
& of course, who doesn't adore the silly remarks scattered over the entirety of the movie. The little lines the Whitmans say soften the maturity of this really quite profound plotline. The twists of any Anderson movie make my jaw drop, this was no exception; in fact, I think it may be the saddest one... It's out of the blue & made me fucking cry because Peter Whitman & I are personality twins. My family absolutely hated it though; I guess you have to understand the humour to like it, but I (obviously) loved it. Not for everyone though...
