Review of The Darjeeling Limited (2007) by Tim S — 31 Aug 2011
I have to confess here and admit that I love Wes Anderson's work and The Darjeeling Limited is no exception. I see it as sort of a generation movie in regard to the actors: Owen Wilson from Bottle Rocket, Jason Schwartzman from Rushmore, Angelica Huston from The Royal Tenenbaums, Bill Murray from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and now we have Adrien Brody thrown in to the mix.
It's a very family-oriented film, even if the plot of the films involves a very broken family. It really is a spiritual journey for the characters and they find a certain amount of closure and a new beginning at the end of the film, but the ride to that place is hilarious and fun, in only the way that Wes Andreson can show it, and we can experience it.
He hits it out of the park once again with another mini masterpiece, one that I'll be enjoying years from now. I love everything about the film and I'm thrilled that Criterion got their hands on it for a top-notch Blu-ray release.
