Review of The Darjeeling Limited (2007) by Christina W — 02 Jan 2011
There was a magical time, in the not too distant past, when I used to throw around the word `quirky` in a positive sense. Such as:
"Blood Simple is a delightfully `quirky` modern noir. It made the hairs in my mullet stand on end.".
These days though, I`ve been subjected to so many twee little quirkfests like "Little Miss Sunshine" and "The Brothers Bloom" that I can't stand the word. TOO MUCH QUIRKINESS! I blame Wes Anderson for this. He has been WAY too influential on the independent movie scene these last ten years or so. "The Darjeeling Limited" is just another of his overblown crayon drawings that the young, pear-shaped cinema monkeys of today seem to flip over. If you're over 25, and can do more than 5 sit-ups, you'll hate it. Someday, in the not too distant future, we'll look back at the Wes Anderson era of cinema and wonder what in the hell we were thinking. Mullets will be back in style and we'll all rejoice in song. 1 star.
