Review of The Darjeeling Limited (2007) by Remi L — 16 Jan 2011
Strange movie. Like, I <3 Huckabees strange. The underlying message wasn't lost on me though. Darjeeling follows three estranged brothers played by Owen Wilson (the eldest, who likes to play the stand-in for their estranged mother), Adrien Brody (the middle child who has a warped view of love and marriage), and Jason Schwartzman (the baby who is an aspiring writer and kind of a ho) as they take a spiritual journey through India in an attempt to reconnect.
Hijinks and hilarity ahead! They immediately commence to keeping secrets from each other, with Owen hiding the biggest of all. We learn about how screwed up this family is and wonder if they'll ever bond.
It was entertaining and had some dramatic moments, but it was definitely a 90% comedy. I think this is the kind of film you'd show in a college class though.
