Review of The Darjeeling Limited (2007) by Dave M — 11 Feb 2013
Here's the simpler Wes Anderson film. We know his formula; you like it or you hate it. A story about family, slow motion walks, unique and catching soundtrack; everything a Wes Anderson film requires, but none of this still comes off as cliche in my opinion.
Anderson doesn't try to over exceed himself in the story nor the way it's told. The Life Aquatic seemed to lose itself both visually and scripturally, but Darjeeling keeps to a smaller story that happens to be set in a visually spectacular location.
The three brothers are all unique but they shared bonds and had chemistry that spoke volumes to me. I found myself in utter joy throughout. While the film keeps that quiet tension it never strays into the darkest of territories that I might have expected.
Thanks Wes. You just gave me some peace of mind.
