Review of The Darjeeling Limited (2007) by Danb. — 27 Oct 2007
Yes, the bit in the middle, with the three kids and the raft and all--that's weird, maybe even exploitative, and in any case contrived. Yes, Wes Anderson's style seems to get in the way of some or all of the substance, here maybe even more than in Life Aquatic.
And yet! I liked it. And anyone who liked his previous movies will like it (unless they want to get all critic-y and complain about Anderson repeating himself, in which case they are the cause of their own satisfaction), and I think a fair number of people who have not seen his previous movies might like it too.
