Review of The Danish Girl (2015) by Eric A — 27 Feb 2016
This movie is beautifully framed since it is a movie about the art world. Every setting shot matched paintings that have made their ways into art gallery, but they were wonderfully brought to life. Since The Danish Girl was shot in six countries, this adds to the romantic quality about the love between two artists Gerda played by Alicia Vikander and Eddie Redmayne as Einar.
Einar has a feminie quality in his quiet demeanor, but soon Gerda brings out Lili. The screenplay is perhaps overly romanticized, yet the tragic quality lingers. Eddie Redmayne's physicality changes amazingly and he indeed becomes the transgender character Lili.
Vikander is also emotionally torn and her performance is beautifully done. It succeeds because the love between the artists is forever. So if you want to be adorned in a romantic European tapestry that enfolds into a beautiful tragic love story.
..this is your film.
