Review of The Danish Girl (2015) by Moya W — 29 Feb 2016
The Danish Girl is magical. I was all over the place after having seen this. There aren't many movies like these. Every single scene, every single breath, every single facial expression of this movie is so well thought-out, into the tiniest microscopic detail that I can't help feeling blown away by every single scene of this movie.
Alicia Vikander was very well deserved of her Academy award. The first Swede to win an Academy award since Ingrid Bergman.
Both Alicia Vikander and Eddie Redmayne did an incredible job in this movie. This is a movie about love and sorrow. It's about a man realising that he isn't comfortable in his body, and knowing that your wife is suffering. Having to watch her suffer whilst you're trying to figure out who you are. It's also about a woman who's married to a man who doesn't want to be a man anymore. Having to see your husband be confused with his identity, knowing that it's hurting you but you still love him too much to let him go.
I am mesmerised. This is a movie to see once, and then see it again. I am so happy to see movies like these. Movies that make you hold your breath. Movies that are still etched in your skin two days later. Movies where you afterwards feel: wow! How can someone make me feel this way, and if one person can make me feel like this after a movie, why can't everyone?
