Review of The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys (2002) by Chris S — 09 Aug 2005
I just got finished watched The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys (the movie we borrowed from the library this past Saturday). It was ok. It was like Stand By Me, but funnier in parts, sadder in other parts and not as good as Stand By Me. And instead of 4 boys going to see a dead body like they did in Stand By Me, The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys featured 4 boys plotting to put a wild Cougar into the office of one of their teachers...who was a nun...a nun with a PEG LEG! Seriously!
Truthfully, the Peg Legged Nun reminded me of a couple of nuns I had for teachers in elementary school and it reminded me of exactly why I long ago gave up being a Christian/Catholic. The nun in the movie (played by Jodie Foster) was true to life. Hell, she could have BEEN my 3rd grade teacher, Sister Diane. Sister Diane didn't have a peg leg, but she was one of the nastiest human beings I have ever met. Lucky for me, Sister Diane was really short and I am really tall and I was actually taller than she was when I was in third grade. This comforted me as I knew that, if I had to, I COULD take her in a fight. Like I said, the movie was a bit too sad in some parts for me to really like it, but I give it 6 out of 10 stars.
