Review of The Dancer Upstairs (2002) by Mark G — 17 Jul 2007
A beautifully atmospheric and deliberately paced film with a fantastic performance from Javier Bardem. It's less a police thriller than a character study. Malkovich doesn't take any easy options by throwing in Hollywood staples like car chases or 'clever' twists.
The final pay-off might be evident from a long way off but it's getting there that this film is more concerned with. It's also proof that Bardem is an incredible actor in any language.
