Review of The Dance of Reality (2013) by Iowa B — 26 Sep 2014
I always found Alejandro Jodorowsky to be a rather curious director: while his films are visually appealing, many of them have a generous share of flaws and silly moments and yet, in many cases their undeniable uniqueness and sincerity holds them together.
"La Danza de la Realidad" is considerably lighter than his previous efforts, but still holds plenty of his trademarks(for better or worse). It is an uneven film shifting between engaging, exhausting and annoying, but, again, as the credits roll, it turns out to have been a worthwhile journey.
On the other hand, its very title, coupled with Jodorowsky's own beliefs, would suggest an uneven tone and, somehow, this unevenness serves the film well.
Definitely, this would not please the mainstream audiences and it might upset some die-hard Jodorowsky fans, but those with a taste for eccentric cinema might enjoy it.
