Review of The Damned United (2009) by Christopher T — 01 Mar 2010
Michael Sheen is snubbed for one of his best performances yet! Forget about him being in "New Moon," okay I'll admit he was the best actor in it next to Robert Pattinson and Dakota Fanning, but remember him from "The Queen," and "Frost/Nixon?" Well yeah, the writer of "Frost/Nixon," and "The Queen" also wrote this.
Tom Hooper is certainly a filmmaker I am going to keep my eyes on. I am struck by the great cinematography that Ben Smithard did (also a snubb for a nomination, could have easily took "Avatars" fucking place!).
This film is gripping from start to finish. It examines the very surreal friendship of two sports agents, and shows you how important loyalty really is. Brian Clough's life is what is being portrayed by Michael Sheen, and I am shocked to how close they do look alike.
This story is one that cannot be forgotten. I am not the greatest fan of sports movies, or movies that are about Soccer, but like sports movies, rugby and invictus I became a fan. The dialogue in this is pitch perfect.
Peter Morgan just couldnt be a better playwright or script writer the guy has talent. I think this film had more potential for Oscar nominations, and is probably one of the most ripped off films this year.
I beg you to see this, because I promise you that you won't be disappointed.
