Review of The Damned United (2009) by Cody S — 03 Mar 2010
Amazing! Peter Morgan is, along with Steven Knight of 'Dirty Pretty Things' and 'Eastern Promises', the master of historical dramatists. By that I mean they take the influence of real-life events, find a time frame they like, and then milk every bit of beautiful conflict and obsession and humanity out of the people who inhabit the times they choose to portray.
Tom Hooper directs this movie efficiently and Michael Sheen is the embodiment of nervous ambition. Like "Frost/Nixon" and "The Queen" the film merely needs to run like a well-oiled machine because what matters here is the words, the acting, and the straight to point emotion.
In essence: eloquence; a defining characteristic of the British cinema.
