Review of The Da Vinci Code (2006) by David S — 18 Apr 2016
The BEST example of a movie not being as good (not even close here) as the book. Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code is one of the best literary achievements of all time. My second favorite book. And there's NO WAY you can present even a smidgen of the book's content into one movie.
I hated the movie when I first saw it, and watching it again, I hate it now. It's cheesy (the visualizations and ghostly figures of times-past overlaying the modern-day? Hokey as shit). The way the film has to dumb things down for the audience is a slap in your face.
The pacing pretty much stunk. I tried SO HARD to see it as a new entity, not based on any book; Couldn't do it. Just couldn't. Anybody that says they won't read it because they didn't care for the movie is doing themselves one huge disservice.
READ THE BOOK. It's amazing. SKIP THE FLICK. It sucks.
