Review of The D Train (2015) by Claudia F — 27 Oct 2016
This was a somewhat odd film that I hadn't heard of which is rare. I like both leads, jack Black and James Marsden, and since I hadn't heard of it, I had no expectations. That's a good thing, because I don't think this one would've matched my expectations which I think is why the movie didn't get much attention and the reviews I've read aren't great.
I think people expected a silly Jack Black comedy, but it's a R-Rated dark comedy tackling several thinks from lack of confidence, to humiliation and nature of relationships. Jack Black plays an awkward man who seems to lack confidence in himself, he's led a very safe and predictable life, as the head of his High-school's 20 year reunion committee, he commits to get the most popular guy from their era, Marsden, to come to the Reunion in order to draws a larger crowd.
He goes on a "business" trip to try and convince him and over a couple days has his world turned upside down. The film is flawed, but I like it for a few reasons, I never knew what was going to happen, I felt the characters seemed real for who they were, and the performances were good, including a supporting role for Jeffrey Tambor.
This movie won't be for everything, but if you want something different then give it a try.
