Review of The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) by Rob Ó — 15 Oct 2011
Enormously different from the Universal film, and delightfully so as the emphasis is placed far more on the Doctor Frankenstein himself (the creature doesn't even appear until halfway into the film).
This version of Frankenstein is cold and twisted, willing to do anything and use (or even kill) anyone in his quest to create the perfect artificial being. Peter Cushing is wonderfully evil as the Doctor, making him practically unrecognisable from the heroic Van Helsing of the Dracula films.
While the film overall isn't as iconic as the Universal film, it is still not to be missed.
