Review of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) by Natalie B — 06 Jun 2012
Beautifully made, but the pace is so slow it is soporific. Cate Blanchett is superb; as is Taraji P. Henson. The makeup is fantastic. The score lyrically beautiful. Locations expertly set.
The Fitzgerald story was a short story. The interesting ideas fit a short story. Here they are unbearably stretched out to 2 hours and 47 minutes. I kept routing for Button to be a baby and be done with it. The Katrina frame promises more than it delivers.
Only worth watching for the craftmanship in the movie -- looking for those details whittles away the hours.
