Review of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) by Rory R — 05 Oct 2012
These fantasy films, with this style of story telling are my favourite, and this succeeds for two thirds of it. It's exactly what it should be, imaginative and larger than life, but then the last third starts to feel dragged on and overly serious/ Even though it is a sad part of the story, it could have been a lot shorter and more surreal.
Once the film ends you look back at the main moments, and how realistic Benjamin Button's condition is and then realise that maybe it could have been a lot more creative and fantasy driven. Pretty solid performances from everyone, was pretty cool seeing how well they aged Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.
I think I would have rather seen Benjamin Button living a life of fantasy than a life of realism, but was still interesting enough to live in his world for the best part of two hours.
