Review of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) by Kevin R — 23 Aug 2012
Some creatures aren't meant to survive.
Benjamin Button was born very weird. As a baby he looked like a very old man and as he ages he becomes younger. At the age of five he fell in love with a young girl, Daisy, and as they grow up they also grow apart. Fortunately, despite aging in opposite directions, their paths cross and they have a chance to fall in love again.
"It's not about how well you play it's about how well you feel when you play.".
David Fincher, director of The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Se7en, Fight Club, Panic Room, and Alien3, delivers The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The storyline for this picture is interesting and the characters are very well written and delivered. Pitt and Blanchett were excellent in their key roles and Julia Ormond, Faune Chambers, Elias Koteas, Donna Duplantier, and Jacob Tolano deliver solid supporting performances.
"A hotel in the middle of the night can be a magical place.".
This is a film I have been waiting to see for some time and finally caught it on cable. I did enjoy this movie a lot but didn't walk away thinking this was an Oscar caliber film or one of my favorite character pieces. Was there magic in this film? Sure. Is this an all time classic? No. I do recommend seeing this film and maybe adding it to your DVD collection.
"God keeps reminding me that I'm lucky to be alive.".
Grade: B+/A-.
