Review of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) by Stefan N — 09 Aug 2013
I just wish "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" came before "Forrest Gump," since it is essentially a very similar story. I prefer this one to "Forrest Gump," but it lacks the originality I needed.
There, I'm finished with complaining about my only problem with the film. The plot, based on a story written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a magnificent fantasy tale about a man who lives in the 21st century by aging backwards growing younger and younger.
The script is a little over-the-top, but its warmth makes it impossible not to resist. The dialogue is powerful and the plot is well thought out. For two and a half hours, you are Benjamin Button and you live someone's extremely interesting life.
The film evokes emotion continuously which is what makes a good film we truly care about the characters in a fantasy. David Fincher is an ideal dark and serious balance to Eric Roth's corniness and melodrama.
The acting especially on the part of Brad Pitt and Taraji Henson is spectacular. Pitt uses facial expressions he probably has never used in his life to play the role. Henson throws so much energy and emotion into her performance that its impossible not to resist.
The visual effects and makeup are simply outstanding. The techniques used to make the characters age is convincing and a landmark for film. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" evokes the feel of the 21st century with style, class, heart, and originality.
