Review of The Culture High (2014) by Dillinger P — 11 Mar 2015
FINALLY! Here we have a strong, lengthy and smart discussion on a much debated topic, grass. We dont have some stoner going on about how good it is, we dont have idiots bashing it, no, here we have a huge amount of contributors ranging from rap artists, naturally, to police officers, scientists, psychologists, parents of children with debilitating diseases all talking about the legalization of cannabis and the pros and cons.
Not only is it lengthy and stock full of opinions but it is also extremely deep, delving into the mass marketing of legal drugs, ie benzo's pain killers e.t.c., about how the government is corrupt, about the DEA busting users for 10 years to make money, the prison system and even medicinal purposes of the drug that are conducted in a very, very interesting and thought provoking way.
There is a segment, with a father of a child who became epileptic at the age of 15 months, since then having seizures all day every day. The boy is put on 25 different pills each day that do him more harm than good and in a last ditch attempt, the father uses cannabis extract to see if it helps, this entire segment is heartfelt and real, its not preaching, its human.
The points raised are tremendous and after watching this film, it has swayed me to say cannabis should be legalized. Add into the mix even further that the editing, the pacing and the film itself is jaw droppingly professional and stunning, it manages to get across big chunks of information in an entertaining and stylish way, with constant score music underneath, just subtle enough to hear, that allows momentum to the entire piece.
It never bores, it always surprises and it is a must watch for every person pro or against the plant.
