Review of The Crying Game (1992) by Fred G S — 18 Feb 2012
This film reinforced my belief that many people value the quirkiness of a film over its content. This film was nothing special. However, it opened with an odd scene between an interracial couple of a semi-sexual nature; then moved on to a black dude (a soldier) being kidnapped by some white dudes (in the IRA). It then proceeded to center itself on an uneasy love story between a good hearted terrorist and a bi-racial transvestite.
I was very disappointed after watching this film. The plot was nothing to write home to mom about and the acting was decent.
I recently clicked on the trailer link to a new film coming out but the reason I clicked on it was because there were two women cuddling in the bathtub. I won't watch that movie (as I don't get off on that sort of thing) but it will automatically garner attention because of its lesbian theme. Again, the quirkiness of these movies seems to excite people but I for one thought The Crying Game was a waste of time.
