Review of The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005) by Michael L — 20 Apr 2008
For a The Crow sequel/horror B-movie, this was actually pretty entertaining. The film is arresting thanks to some flashy and unusual visuals and the whole thing is held together with a really pretty nifty 'Spaghetti Western'-style soundtrack, although the latter sometimes drowns out the dialogue (not necessarily a bad thing). Boreanaz is always at his best when playing a bad guy, and Dennis Hopper is a joy to watch, even if his dialogue is ridiculous, but the whole thing is let down somewhat by Furlong, who sadly isn't a good fit for the whole Crow aesthetic, and looks pretty ridiculous once he dons the 'Crow outfit', which is a shame, as he does pretty well up until that point in the film.
Ultimately, this is a more-decent-than-most example of a horror B-movie, but one's tolerance for such things may very well vary.
