Review of The Crow (1994) by Nathan T — 01 Feb 2013
The Crow kicks ass! This is honestly one of the most stylishly engrossing films I've ever seen and is THE gothic masterpiece. On the 30th of October Eric Draven and Shelly Webster are mudered. One year later, the Crow resurrects Eric in order for him to exact some good old fashioned vengeance of his killers.
Brandon Lee is absolutely riveting to watch as Eric. He's poetic, philosophical, often funny and always kinda scary. You get the sense that he is one step away from madness and I love unpredictable characters like him.
The atmosphere and cinematography is nothing short of spectacular. Dark shadows, distorted angles and sweeping camera shots all create an otherworldly vibe, one that is similar to our world, yet utterly different at the same time.
I'm sure everyone is aware of the tragic circumstances of Brandon Lee's death during production of this movie. This movie is his legacy, he delivers one of the finest screen performances I've ever seen and overall, this film is a true masterpiece of gothic cinema.
My top 10: #2.
