Review of The Crow (1994) by Timothy B — 20 Feb 2018
I just re-watched this movie on DVD after about 10 years and still it is amazing. There are movies we saw back in the day and look at them now and roll our eyes and we will say, "what was I thinking, liking this movie.
" Well not wit The Crow. We are now in era where are comic book movies are being taken a little bit more series but the flaw with that is Hollywood sold out to the masses and now go for the ticket selling "safe" family friendly theme.
The Crow embodies the comic book style element in movies that is almost a last art. The FX were very conventional which ads to the prestige that is this movie, Brandon (RIP) finally had his film. To bad we lost him.
The dark gritty world that The Crow puts us in gives a accurate depiction of sadness and then victory of a tortured soul getting his revenge. It is the perfect hero origin movie that gives us the comic fans the movie we want.
Word is a remake is in the works. Lets just hope the team that puts it together takes notes from the style of this first one.
