Review of The Crossing Guard (1995) by Tom H — 09 Oct 2009
Interesting little drama. Nothing special could be an understatement as far as this movie's concerned though. No great talent behind Sean Penn's first flick, in the way it was filmed anyway. Penn's use of slow motion is more often cheesy than effective. And there is a lot of it.
I will say the writing is great and the performances are all amazing. But the movie is kinda dull and flat, there is a couple scenes that are exciting and stuff, but the ending is just stupid. It just doesn't fit, is totally anti-climatic, and just blows. Shame too, the last part of the movie leading up to the ending is quite good. Oh well. Penn talent behind the camera could only get better after this.
