Review of The Croods (2013) by Sean J — 17 Dec 2013
I saw a couple trailers for this, but never got really inspired to see it. Honestly, it looked like the human equivalent to 'Ice Age', and I wasn't terribly fond of the idea. However, I decided to give it a shot when it arrived from Netflix.
What I saw didn't knock my socks off, but it was a pleasant surprise. The voice cast - including Nicolas Cage (Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance), Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-man), Ryan Reynolds (Safe House), Catherine Keener (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief), Clark Duke (Kick-Ass 2), and Cloris Leachman (New York, I Love You) - was quite apt, and the story was very family focused.
Don't get me wrong, it's surprisingly unbelievable, but it almost revels in that. Stone age animals in this flick take the appearance of hybrids beyond comprehension, and are quite funny because of it.
There's very little to worry about with kids watching it, and adults may get a chuckle out of it as well.
