Review of The Croods (2013) by Megan H — 27 Apr 2014
Over the Christmas holiday I actually posted about this film on my Facebook status. I was that surprised about my opinion, I just had to share it right away rather than wait until I got around to reviewing it.
I had never wanted to see this movie. I am usually just as excited to see an animated feature as my kids are, but the commercials for this one kind of made me cringe. It looked too silly, with no redeeming qualities. Nicolas Cage as a caveman?! What next?
Then my folks brought it along to our house for a family film night. I agreed to sit quietly and watch.
I feel I may never have been more wrong about a film before.
The storyline mainly focuses upon an overprotective father and his curious teenage daughter. It may ring a few bells for you. I know it certainly did for me. It is ultimately about love, trust, and sacrifice. It is actually very touching. And the gags weren't even that bad when viewed in context.
Perhaps the advertising agencies thought they were marketing this one as best they could; playing up the humor, as always. I simply think they did this family gem a disservice. I'm really glad I took the time to find that I had been completely wrong.
