Review of The Crime of Padre Amaro (2002) by Ondine E — 21 Feb 2008
The only crime he commits is to not follow his heart. His stubbornness and hypocrisy make the ending so much more poignant. When will the Church recognise that 'carnality' IS humanity, and that contraception is just so much more acceptable than the sad outcome of this film.
Not to mention abolishing celibacy for priests - what an unnatural life they have to lead...Bernal is stunning.
