Review of The Crime of Padre Amaro (2002) by Zoe A — 25 May 2008
This movie was as dull as a rusty butter knife. The digs it takes at the Catholic Church are trite and predictable since the themes, particularly of corruption and sin, aren't new to any powerful religious or secular institution.
There was too much of the same old stuff I've seen played out better in other films. Bernal, one of the hottest actors on either side of the "Virtual Fence," acted well enough, but there wasn't enough steamy sacrilege to keep me interested.
