Review of The Crime of Padre Amaro (2002) by Steven G — 08 Apr 2010
It's a very powerful movie. It's good to know that real cinema exists outside of Hollywood too. As for many movies based on books, the scenario is substantial. The casting is flawless. You may remember Garcia Bernal from Amaros Perros. He's a very talented actor. The rest is more than up to par.
The movie not just successfully depicts the corruption in Catholic church but also warmly and often sadly pictures the human nature. No theatrical exaggerations or made-up heroes here, just people in their purest form.
