Review of The Crazies (1973) by Andrew G — 26 Feb 2010
For George A. Romero, this is one hell of a step down in quality from his previous film: Night of the Living Dead. I absolutely love the Premise of the Crazies, but the film doesn't use the plot as well as it could.
I think that's because of how tight the editting is. The dialogue from each character literally starts the second the previous character's finishes. The same is with each scene, so there's no time for spectacle or time to wander.
As a result of this tight editting, it's often hard to register in the mind what exactly happened, and I personally found myself rewatching some scenes to set in my mind what was happening. That's where the film suffers, it's story isn't as good as you'd expect, and because of that, it's hard to enjoy.
It pains me to poorly rank a Romero film, but it's something I have to do.
