Review of The Cowboys (1972) by Blais E — 02 Feb 2011
The Duke's magnum 70's opus, filled with his usual charismatic drawl-and-swagger, as here he enlists the help of a ragtag band of local school-children on an arduous cattle-drive while fending off slime-bag Bruce Dern (In a really creepy performance-) and his group of scuzz-bucket cattle rustlers.
Featuring great turns by the erudite Roscoe Lee Browne as the Duke's stern & perceptive chuckwagon-cook, and gravelly-voiced Colleen Dewhurst as an earthy frontier Madame. An unsettling shock ending may be off-putting to die-hard Wayne fans.
