Review of The Court Jester (1955) by T.j. M — 07 Apr 2011
A riotous comedy--one of the greatest ever made that showcases Danny Kaye to superb effect. This film has so many classic, wet-your-pants-laughing scenes, that a dozen people might see it and each have their own favorite moment.
My personal favorite is when the witch, Griselda ("Gri-WHO-lda?") places Kaye under her spell. But there are so many great ones--from Kaye's hurried initiation as a knight, to the glorious "Vessel with the pestle was the pellet with the poison" routine, to the attempted seduction of Maid Jean by the king, to the the first meeting of king and jester, and the insane sword fight at the end.
This is farce at it's farcical best!
