Review of The Courier (2020) by Dawdlingpoet — 20 Feb 2022
This is a tense, somewhat gripping spy thriller film with a good performance from Benedict Cumberbatch. Its based on a true story and, as with most true stories, there's information provided by text at the end of the film, prior to the credits rolling and there's even library footage, which was interesting.
Also present is Jessie Buckley, who plays Sheila, Greville's wife (not to mention Rachel Brosnahan, of 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' (Amazon Prime Video series) fame). The story is interesting and it isn't an overly long film, given the plot, I'd say its about the right length.
It isn't exactly choc full of action but the uncertainty of what will happen to the characters (of course we know what happened in terms of the historical context of the cuban/russian nuclear war threat) keeps the viewer engaged.
Its a fairly thought provoking watch I suppose and so I'd recommend it, yes.
