Review of The Country Teacher of Ban Nong He Yai (2010) by Hugo F — 02 Mar 2008
Refreshing for two reasons: original in the subject matter before the genre of misfit students battle the disillusioned but intelligent and sincere teacher who rewrites the curriculum and sends everyone to college in ship shape.
Second, Poitier reprised his role of sorts from the groundbreaking Blackboard Jungle which had everyone standing on their heads and handing out praises. One could almost imagine this is the route Poitier's character from the previously mentioned film would have taken and so it becomes a kind of sequel.
The way Poitier plays the role, staring long and silently into the faces of his ruffian brood, he may have been them once. Look at the cover there too, is that not refreshing? Also, the kid who won't take off his black sunglasses is my hero.
