Review of The Counselor (2013) by Logan M — 11 Mar 2014

Do not buy into any positive reviews for this. Javier Bardem is stellar in dialogue delivery. There are no more positives about this movie. It's like a hazy day dream that never quite decides on an interesting plot, let alone progresses appropriately towards a climax. Imagine no country for old men..... But it was edited by someone who was really really stoned. When a film turns that corner of artistic/intelligent and goes down the alley of pointless/ trying too hard.....this film is ten miles down that alley.

As a bonus Diaz is terrible. Apparently her character is supposed to be from Barbados? Had no idea till her character had to mention it in dialogue. Her accent is so bad I thought she was trying (unsuccessfully) to poke fun at Javier's character. Then she delivers a bs indie movie speech at the end and it's unbearable.

Long story short there's a handful of world class talent, a director that needs no introduction, and a writer whom apparently has a good sized fan based. And it's just muck. Imagine Argo on anti-depressants. Just a slow hazy movie that was made for snobby critics, except on this occasion, they couldn't even find nice things to say.
