Review of The Counselor (2013) by David S — 08 Apr 2014
Cormac McCarthy, who comes across as a southwestern Elmore Leonard has never really appealed to me. His screenwriting debut is filled with typical low life's, colorful killers, and, of course, shocking death scenes.
What it lacks is tension and clarity. Michael Fassbender plays the title character, a lawyer who is going to join the drug trade. There is endless debate about whether he is doing the right thing (of course he isn't) when the inevitable happens, and the deal goes bad that's when the movie slows down even more.
To paraphrase It's A Wonderful Life, why don't you just shoot them instead of talking them to death!
