Review of The Counselor (2013) by Johnny A — 03 May 2014
I guess I expected more more from this film granted the very talented cast and director that was attached to it. It's not a horrible film in the least, but it could have been great. However, I was let down in some ways.
Ridley Scott is one of the greatest directors of all time, and I feel like he could have crafted this film better and made it what everyone hoped it would be: a really suspenseful, gritty thriller. The cast is amazing though.
Javier Bardem, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, and Penelope Cruz. Cameron Diaz's performance was very good but her character was just really freaking weird. I mean for god sakes he's basically has sex with a car.
However, I feel like that is partially due to the scripts fault, because that tells the actors what to do, and hey that's her character. The Counselor could have been great, but it was just a bit of a muddled mess with decent direction, a muddled plot, but featured graphic and brutal violence and great acting.
A good rental.
