Review of The Counselor (2013) by Mike C — 20 Aug 2014
A lot of dislike for this movie. At first, I couldn't figure out why, but when I went to rate it, I wasn't sure if deserved my average 6/10, but a 5/10 seemed low...and what do ya know, it's a 5.5 on imdb.
It's well made in terms of production. Sexy and all that noise. Most of the acting is okay. So what about it stinks? The story is not terribly original but it's not horrible. There are some lame sequences with dialogue, the ending is shit, and I thought the whole romance thing was a bit contrived, but hello, it's a movie.
Maybe the most interesting thing to me is how disgusting I found Cameron Diaz. That's a first. And there's a scene fairly early in the movie that could be kinda hot or kinda weird. But by the end of the movie, she's a piece of trash and that makes her terribly ugly. Cruz, on the other hand, can never be ugly. It's impossible. But, her character was probably put a little too high on the pedestal. I realize they wanted to tell a story with her, but c'mon, she married a dude and didn't ask questions?
Not my kind of movie so what do I know, but I made it through and thought some stuff was interesting. At least average to me.
