Review of The Counselor (2013) by Joe J — 12 Jan 2016
I'm one of those people who watched it three times and think it gets better every time. It's such a radical and uncompromising film, that you either love it or hate it. For example Guillermo del Toro loves it and thinks it's the ultimate film about the US-Mexican drug wars.
My admiration for it is mostly based on the great dialogue by Cormac McCarthy and the stunning direction by Ridley Scott, but the cinematography and cast are good, too. Small flaws are in the editing, the casting sometimes and some of McCarthy's lines should have been cut out, but especially in the Unrated Cut this is an impressive achievement.
I would welcome a third cut!
