Review of The Cotton Club (1984) by Atteli09 * — 27 Oct 2009
Despite what you have heard Coppolas wildly overbudget film has plenty going for it.
The film has plenty of dash and verve and some excellent dance and violent set pieces.
Richard Gere and Diane Lane are fine as the two leads but what makes the film so good is the supporting cast.
Bob Hoskins ,James Remar ,Nicholas Cage, Fred Gwynne are all standout performances, and Gregory Hines conjures up some some memorable danc e numbers.
The plot is a little light in places and the film does suffer from length issues but like Scoresese's Flawed masterpiece New York New York I feel this film will become more higly regarded as the years go by .
A really good flawed film well worth seeking out.
