Review of The Cooler (2003) by Alec B — 15 May 2008
What really holds The Cooler together are the perfromances. William H. Macy and Maria Bello are great together and show remarkable bravery for their love scenes that are very honest. Alec Baldwin is great as the old school gangster owner of the casino, he has some dark moments but his character is anything but a one dimmensional "bad guy" if that term can even apply to him.
So much of the story seems to be about the old versus the new whether that be in a generational way or a way of life. The Cooler isn't perfect, but the interesting premise along with the actors make this one of the better "vegas" movies out there.
