Review of The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) by Prasad P — 13 Sep 2008
Director Peter Greenaway gives us a feast for our senses in the only way he can - with a dazzling, uneasy, drug-inducive display of creative cinema. Michael Gambon is brilliant as the boorish, cruel thief of the title and Hellen Mirren is his wife.
Inside is a simple tale of infidelity and revenge - all inside a twisted head trip of a movie. Bizarre, graphic, strange and utterly compulsive. And not to all tastes.
