Review of The Conversation (1974) by Adrian B — 02 Nov 2010
After watching this film, I have to say Gene Hackman is one of my favourite actors and I am very interested in experiencing more of Coppola's great films. It is a frightening, tense, exciting thriller that causes the viewer to walk through every scene in paranoia.
It is calculated so brilliantly and it fools the viewer at one point when you think the film has actually drifted off course, but no(sort of in ways like the scene where everyone is dismissive in Hitchcock's Rear Window and then something dies but that is another story).
It is one of the finest films from the 1970's, with Hackman at his best. A cold, lurid, and fascinating masterpiece.
