Review of The Conversation (1974) by Ben B — 12 Dec 2008
Coppola's bridge between The Godfather Part I and II is a well-crafted re-envisioning of Antonioni's Blow-Up. The latter may deal with larger subtexts, but Coppola has a way of taking the simplistic plot and bringing out what is given to him, mostly in a character study of a man who loses control of his self-made, well-accepted existence.
Hackman is brilliant in his role with the regular Cazale doing his best with the ugly-duckling sidekick as usual.
