Review of The Conversation (1974) by Anthony C — 16 Jan 2009
While watching I felt rather annoyed. The plot didn't seem to be moving quick enough and a bunch of random shit was happening and Harrison Ford showed up for no reason. It seemed kind of stupid. But then about 3/4 of the way through it all started to make sense and I appreciated everything that happened before.
I did not enjoy Hackman's acting. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I expected ( I guess that's what I get for having expectations). He didn't convince me of being paranoid. I mean, I knew his character was because he outright talks about it, "I want the only key to my apartment" and him trashing the room at the end. But other than him being told by the director to do some things to seem paranoid, he didn't pull off the character as well as I wished.
Also there were some weird camera shots and obvious audio dubs and errors that took me out of the film.
I don't know if i'm retarded or if this is just that great a movie, but I did not see that twist coming, and I very much enjoyed it, and for that I rate this film highly.
