Review of The Conversation (1974) by Elliot G — 30 Jan 2009
A perfect film. Part thriller, part character study in which both modes inform the other. Hackman's performance is a great achievement; he gives the man a past communicated through posture and movement, as well as voice.
The last twenty or so minutes are truly harrowing. As much about today as the 70s, especially regarding privacy and paranoia. On a different note, there's a scene in this film where Robert Duvall, Gene Hackman and Harrison Ford are all standing in the same room.
Whoa.
