Review of The Conversation (1974) by Michael S — 02 Sep 2009
Made during the time of watergate The Conversation is a thought piece on technology, privacy, and where are morality lies in between the two. Sadly Copolla didnt know that this very same premise would remain true even more so today.
However, despite the very engaging premise I couldn't help but think this movie dragged 2/3 of the way through and I usually love movies that take their time and develop characters. Maybe I feel this way because the main character is so disconnected from everybody else I felt like they stressed this point to much to the point were it got repetitive.
They do build on his character later but by that time it feels more like a haze than a revelation. Then the thriller part at the end was very interesting but ,too me, seemed a little out of place with its bizarre tone compared to the slow paced isolated tone of the the first 2/3 of the movie.
I would recommend this movie and I did like it but not as much as I was hoping.
